I wanted to talk about a crucial aspect of modernizing our culture … It is the modernization of our architecture ! We should start thinking what would a modern Arabic building look like … This would be an excellent way to create jobs and to show the beauty of our culture to other people ! It would also attract tourists and make our cities far more beautiful … Today our cities are divided between old cities, and the other parts … We should think how we could make modern cities in continuance and harmony with the old cities, so that there would be no “urban fracture” and that when people walk in our cities they know that they are in Tunisia … One of the ways to achieve this could be to bury the car traffic underground in tunnels or simply with roofs over lowered streets (at the level of the basement) and to return the ground floor to pedestrians who could do shopping, stay in cafes, restaurants or walk around without having to cope with the traffic noise and pollution … It would be an excellent opportunity to use our creativity and imagination and to beautify our cities while modernizing our culture and keeping it alive ! People would enjoy living in beautiful cities built with care and love by its own people in the spirit of their culture ! This is not about preservation or imitating or copying the buildings of the past, it is about finding the new shapes and architectures and elements that are modern and innovative and focused on beauty as much as function while being inspired from the architecture of our old cities ! All beautiful cities in the world have their own unique urban and architectural cachet like Rome, Vienna, Paris, Venice, News York, Kyoto, Istanbul, Barcelona, London … It gives a place a unique architectural spirit which becomes recognizable and which attracts visitors from all over the world ... Keeping the cultural diversity alive throughout the world is an additional wealth for all humankind ! Unfortunately, some fascist parties in some neighbouring countries are against such a project because, first, they want to erase the identity of our country and to put its culture between parenthesis. Second, they also want to keep our cities in their present chaos because they want to keep a symbol of the former occupation in the heart of our capital … It is really sad to prevent the reviving of an entire culture for egocententric, expansionist and egomaniac impulses … Added to a project of assimilation of our country which is still alive ... (as always, the people of this country are innocent from these schemes … Those responsible for these wicked schemes are those in the body of state and the people who interfere in setting policies) If they fail to prevent these reforms from happening, they are planning, as a last resort, on doing the building themselves, to disown the locals from their own culture and to prevent them from having the skills and capabilities necessary to do it, in order to prevent them from keeping doing it ... |
